Nazarbayev invites Korea's new president Moon Jae-in to Kazakhstan

South Korea's new President Moon Jae-in spoke to the leaders of China and Japan on Thursday, hours after a telephone call with his USA counterpart Donald Trump, officials said, as he began shaping his approach to the nuclear-armed North.

Park's decision to allow the United States to base a state-of-the-art missile defense system known by the acronym THAAD in South Korea's territory to cope with North Korean nuclear threats is a major irritant.

Mr Moon also raised the issue of apparent economic retaliation against South Korean firms in China, he said.

President Moon Jae-in told his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping that he's aware of Beijing's concerns over a US missile shield installed on South Korean territory and will work to resolve the problem.

Moon also told Xi that he will soon send a special delegation to Beijing to discuss the issues of THAAD and North Korea.

President Donald Trump today invited South Korea's new president to visit the White House after an election victory that could cause friction between the allies over how to deal with North Korea's nuclear threat.

United States officials have said they see no value in resuming global talks with North Korea until Pyongyang has made clear it is committed to denuclearisation.

New South Korean President Moon Jae-in has cast doubt on a landmark deal with Japan over wartime sex slaves.

He touched upon the 2015 agreement reached by Japan and South Korea to resolve the issue of "comfort women" who were forced to provide sex to Japanese soldiers before and during World War II. South Korea plays a crucial role in regional stability, it said.

"I am willing to go anywhere for the peace of the Korean Peninsula", he said today.

Tension has been high for months on the Korean peninsula over North Korea's nuclear and missile development and fears it will conduct a sixth nuclear test or test another ballistic missile in defiance of UN Security Council resolutions.

The new president wants to increase contacts with North Korea, while continuing to pressure its government.

While Moon was likely helped by the corruption scandal that brought down former president Park Geun-hye, the darkest shadow had to be the growing tensions between the USA and North Korea. Modi invited the South Korean President to India, also expressing hope to hold bilateral talks at upcoming worldwide meetings like G20 summit slated for July.

USA officials, however, have expressed concern that Moon's advocacy of engagement with the DPRK could undercut the White House's aggressive efforts to isolate Pyongyang.

Moon said Pyongyang's nuclear issue should be addressed "comprehensively and gradually", not only with pressure but also through talks, because current global sanctions are also aimed at guiding Kim's regime to return to dialogue, Yoon said.

Moon said in his first speech as president he would begin efforts to defuse tensions in the region.

Also, Trump recently said South Korea should pay as much as $1 billion for the missile system.

"I believe Russian Federation is our country's best partner in working to ensure the peace and prosperity of Eurasia", the new South Korean president told Putin, according to his presidential office Cheong Wa Dae.

South Korea's new liberal President Moon Jae-in has vowed to tackle immediately the hard tasks of addressing North Korea's advancing nuclear ambitions and soothing tensions with the United States and China.

The dispute could complicate what has been a growing alliance between the countries, although Moon also stressed that historical problem should not hinder bilateral relations on other issues.
