The news emerged from post-reveal event interviews last night, and takes just a little of the shine off of what was otherwise a well-received unveiling.
Now that "Destiny" has received its final update, Bungie is focusing all its efforts on the full-game sequel, set to launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, as well as PC for the first time, on September 8.
In Destiny 2, your home is demolished, your gear gets destroyed, and an assault from the Cabal's Red Legion leaves you and the rest of the Guardians stripped of your Light.
As announced by Bungie on the official Destiny Facebook page last week, the company will be hosting a live stream tonight, 18 May 2017 at 6pm BST for those of us in the UK. He went on to acknowledge problems some players have had with Destiny's low "tick rate", or the speed at which the game communicated with multiplayer peers and servers.
PC version will use Blizzard's Battle.net service, including features like cross-game chat, and not Steam.
Whether you're a veteran or newcomer, Activision and Bungie want to make all players feel comfortable hopping into Destiny 2. There will also be a new feature called "guided games" which Bungie says can help solo players find a group to play with and allows groups to "open up your party to new players who are looking to play with you". But of course we'll reserve judgement until we've seen the whole game in action - and gotten a chance to play it for a while.
However, in a more text-heavy press release issued after the show, there's a decent summary of what we can expect in the PC release.
In the meantime, there's a lot to look forward to with Destiny 2.
