China's Xi calls for S. Korea ties to get back on track

"Every country has its own troubles".

"(President Trump) talked about sanctions on North Korea and cooperative relations with China.

South Korea can not pursue dialogue and confrontation with Pyongyang simultaneously, the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said on Friday.

The announcement comes as two USA officials told NBC News that the KN-17 launch last weekend was successful and that the missile's re-entry vehicle successfully re-entered the atmosphere.

Pyongyang also said the South Korean government made their complaint "blindly" and that their "disgraceful behavior is ridiculous and a pity".

North Korea has made no secret of the fact that it is working to develop a nuclear-tipped missile capable of striking the U.S. mainland and has ignored calls to rein in its nuclear and missile programmes, even from China, its lone major ally.

She said: "You either support North Korea or you support us, because that's what it comes down to".

Haley previously indicated that new sanctions could target oil, a critical import for North Korea mainly from China, and she said Tuesday the US also wants sanctions on organizations and businesses in countries that are helping Pyongyang. However, Moon is now seeking a two-track policy of sanctions and dialogue.

The new government in Seoul, which was inaugurated on Wednesday, has said it hopes to pursue both engagement with and pressure on North Korea, with new President Moon saying he would visit Pyongyang under "the right circumstances" at his inaugural address on May 10. North Korea is not as closed off from the world as some might think, but it has very few trade partners.

All 15 members of the Security Council including North Korea's closest ally China called the launch a violation of United Nations sanctions and vowed to take new measures, including additional sanctions.

Haley said the worldwide community wants to be able to support North Korea, but as long as it continues trying to grow its nuclear programme with missile tests, North Korea would remain an "island".

"What we do know is the global community is concern".

"We are determined to take care of South Korea, which is why we have our mission there, working and that, as well", Haley said on "This Week".

Both Symantec and Kaspersky, however, said it was too early to tell whether North Korea was involved in the attacks, based on the evidence that was published on Twitter by Google security researcher Neel Mehta. No doubt the United States would like to talk about verification of the dismantling of the North's nuclear and missile program.

McMaster told the envoy he's aware of the ongoing procedural difficulties in South Korea regarding the decision to host the anti-missile system.
