Over 25 People Injured After Bus Crushes in US State of Maryland

Preliminary information indicates SB passenger vehicle attempted to pass bus, lost control, came back across lanes, clipping front of bus, according to Maryland State Police.

The crash took place Monday morning near mile marker 89 on the southbound travel lanes near Havre de Grace, fire officials said. A Phoenixville-based charter bus carrying almost 30 students from Philadelphia was involved in an accident in Maryland that injured over two dozen people. Philadelphia school officials say 26 eighth-graders, two teachers, a parent-chaperone and the driver were on the bus.

Another 25 kids and three adults were taken by ambulance to three regional hospitals: University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health, Harford Memorial and Christiana Care Health System. Two people were flown by helicopter to trauma centers with more serious injuries, but no deaths have been reported.

Maryland State Police spokesman Greg Shipley said the bus overturned at least once near Havre de Grace.

The accident happened about 9:30 a.m. ET on I-95 South near Cecil County about 40 miles north of Baltimore. The bus landed on its side and shredded dozens of feet of guardrail before coming to a stop.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but the crash site shows a wild scene. He says several people are injured, but he did not know how many people or the extent of their injuries.

A limousine-style bus carrying Philadelphia schoolchildren on a school trip lies in the southbound lanes of I-95 in Le Havre, Maryland on Monday.
