Trump warns Comey not to 'leak' conversations

During the White House daily press briefing Friday afternoon, press secretary Sean Spicer was asked whether Trump recorded his conversations with Comey.

President Donald Trump told reporters Saturday it's possible he could nominate someone for the position as early as next Friday before he leaves for a trip overseas.

A White House official has said Trump is considering 11 people to replace Comey.

Trump then suggested doing away with "press briefings" all together.

"You can't be cute about tapes", the SC lawmaker told NBC.

Thirty-two percent of survey respondents said they "don't know enough to say", per the NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released Sunday.

"I think the process is going to go quickly", Trump said. Trump has revealed he asked Comey on three occasions whether he was a target in a probe into alleged Russian election meddling, stoking allegations of presidential interference.

In an interview with ABC's This Week, Clapper said that Russian Federation likely sees the firing of FBI Director James Comey as "another victory on the scoreboard for them" because "the lead of the investigation about potential collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign has been removed".

Other candidates include former NY police commissioner Raymond Kelly, former Republican senator Kelly Ayotte, and South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy, a former federal prosecutor who headed the Benghazi investigation in the House.

"That's frankly offensive", Spicer said.

Democrats have accused Trump of attempting to thwart the FBI's probe and have called for some type of independent inquiry into the matter.

A source said they expect that at some point Comey will respond to Trump - but it is uncertain when that would be.

Trump said there was no "collusion between me and my campaign and the Russians", and that "the Russians did not affect the vote". "They've been vetted over their lifetime essentially, but very well-known, highly respected, really talented people".

Gillibrand, seen by some Democrats as a rising star, has emerged as one of the most outspoken Senate opponents to Trump's agenda.

Alice Fisher, who served in the Justice Department under George W. Bush, arrived for a morning interview Saturday and stayed for an hour and a half.

If the Senate vote on an Federal Bureau of Investigation director were to break down along strict party lines, Democrats would not have the votes to block a nominee.

"The key is getting some of our Republican colleagues to join us", Schumer said.

The Republicans, with 52 seats, control the 100-member Senate. Lindsey Graham of SC warned against picking an elected official because the issues surrounding the appointment are so highly charged.

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-California, tweeted "Mr. President, if there are "tapes" relevant to the Comey firing, it's because you made them and they should be provided to Congress".
