From a petty contractor to a powerful politician, it was a remarkable journey for Naseemuddin Siddiqui who was expelled from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Wednesday.Resident of Girwa village in the backward Banda district, Siddiqui's family struggled for a living till he became a minister in the first BSP government in 1995.Siddiqui had joined the BSP in 1990 and soon became a close confidant of Mayawati.
At a crowded press conference here, an angry Siddiqui levelled a allegations against his former political boss Mayawati and some other BSP leaders claimed that he had so much material that it could cause an "earthquake". He also levelled charges against Mayawati saying that she demanded 50 crores rupees from him and sold tickets during elections.
Referring to purported clippings of audio recordings released by the former BSP General Secretary at his presser earlier in the day, the former Chief Minister said these had been "doctored" to defame her. Ms Mayawati said Mr Siddiqui was a "big blackmailer". He invested money in the real estate and set up a food processing unit.Sources claimed he also hatched a conspiracy against senior leaders Swami Prasad Maurya, Daddu Prasad, Babu Singh Kushwaha, Jugul Kishore and Dara Singh Chauhan.
Naseemuddin Siddiqui, the former no. 2 in the BSP, said that Mayawati had insulted him after party's humiliating defeat in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh state assembly elections in which the Samajwadi Party was ousted out of power. Siddiqui said he had dedicated his whole life to the BSP and the Dalit leader, but she expelled him from the party on flimsy grounds.
Mayawati said when she asked the sacked leader to furnish details about money spent, he did not do so, forcing her to expel him.
He further said whatever charges have been levelled against him, applies to Mayawati and that he can prove those with evidence.
"She even went to the extent of using foul language against the clerics calling them 'Kutte' (dogs) who had extended support to the BSP ahead of elections", Siddiqui claimed. When I explained that the Congress-SP alliance led to a split in votes, she disagreed. He also alleged that all BSP MLAs had to pay Mayawati and even his wife, who was a BSP MLC, had given money to her. According to the IE report, Mayawati said sale of sugar mill was done by the Cabinet and Naseemuddin's department.
"BSP workers say ever since I made my younger brother vice president, he (Naseemuddin) was very perturbed as he used to claim he was number two in the party.I had to bring my brother in the party as we need honest people not selfish ones".
Yesterday, BSP had expelled Siddiqui, its most prominent Muslim face, and his son from the party for carrying out "anti-party" activities.
But the Commission warned in today's statement that the "uncertainty surrounding the economic outlook remains elevated". Tackling the causes of this divergence is the key challenge we must address in the months and years to come".
