Blue Devils Travel North for Penn Relays

Ridge's 4x800-meter relay won a national title this winter, but this was the Penn Relays.

In another 4x100 large-school heat, the Central Bucks South team of sophomore Amanda Carr, freshman Safiya Dodoo, sophomore Stephanie Hiltpold and senior Lydia Fielding also finished second in 48.94, 25th overall. They also gave fifth-year senior Angel Piccirillo her eighth career victory, a women's record for the Relays.

"We just said, "Let's go do it" and then let our legs do the rest", Wadlington said. The hammer throw will take place Friday, but all other events will occur Saturday. This event will attract over 15,000 athletes from all over North America and will be televised on NBC/SN and ESPN.

The team of Jenna Webb (2:20.92), Uchechi Nwogwugwu (2:14.47), Ariana Gardizy (2:18.15), and Mikaela Vlasic (2:18.13) ran an elite time of 9:11.65, earning them second place. Nick Tuck, Ross Wilson and Colin Daly, all of whom can run within 10 seconds of that pace, will round out the squad as the Red and Blue look to defend their first title in that event in 66 years.

Piccirillo ran a 4 minute, 32.76 leg to join fellow Villanovans Michelle Bennett and Kathy Franey as the only women to win seven Penn Relays wheels.

"It's a great honor to be involved with the Penn Relays and to continue my association with the university through athletics", he said.

Piccirillo has been an anchor twice, and she's won both times.

At the 123rd running of the Penn Relays on Thursday at Franklin Field, McArthur took the baton with Patriot in seventh place for the 1,600-meter anchor leg of the distance-medley relay Championship of America and passed all but one of the runners in front of her.

"I think we can be way faster", Nick Feffer said. Kate Grace was third in 4:16.62 and Shelby Houlihan of the Portland-based Bowerman Track Club finished fourth in 4:16.67.

Hutchinson is quickly gaining a reputation for coming up big for the Wildcats when it counts the most.

"When you come here you become a different being", Villanova head coach Gina Procaccio said. She could run the 800 meters. "It made me push harder".

"I told her you don't have to be just a 400 meter runner".

Buttner would not have been able to do that if Hutchinson and Keegan had not done their parts.

In Friday's relay, she was preceded by sophomore Bella Burda, Piccirillo and another soph, Nicole Hutchinson, the last of whom saw Stanford's Christina Aragon nudge into the lead shortly before the exchange. The runners in this race were Miller, Scott, Lynn O'Connor and Lauren Gugger. Keegan, who has had trouble breaking 56 seconds, turned in a 54.05 split.

"It's a chance to run against the best people in the country, and we are among that group", Helmer said.

"We are thrilled to have Nike return as a major sponsor of the Penn Relays", said George Perry, chief revenue officer for Penn Sports Properties powered by JMI Sports.
