Instagram Now Has 700 Million Users

Facebook-owned photo-sharing app Instagram now boast 700 million users, more than 80 per cent of whom are outside the United States.

In December of past year, the company reached 600 million users, meaning that 100 million people joined Instagram in less than five months.

Instagram recapped all its new features including Instagram stories, live video, geo stickers, disappearing messages using 'Instagram Direct', carousel posts and 'Collections' that it has introduced to improve the user experience and engagement.

The growth acceleration of Instagram coincides with Facebook's efforts to make Instagram more like Snap. Snapchat said it added only 50 million daily active users in 2016, but growth stagnated after Instagram launched Stories, towards the end of the year.

Instagram's progress has come at the expense of Snapchat's growth, which sank 82 percent since Instagram launched its Stories copycat in August.

Instagram has grown to over 700 million members. Until last December, the photo-sharing social media app had 600 million users. The number of advertisers on Instagram recently soared past 1M advertisers, which is up 4 times in just the last one year.

Over time, the app withdrew digital frames from its library of filters, while also adding a number of features as it grew.

In comparison, Snapchat now boasts over 160 million daily users. The platform is expected to debut a broad range of new features in the coming months, most of which will likely be focused on video, the format that its parent company believes is the future of commercial Internet. According to Instagram, their biggest event in growth-splosion was the multi-happening in April of 2012.
