Adrian Peterson Nearing Deal With Saints

According to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Peterson and the New Orleans Saints are "believed to be closing in on a deal that would pay him [$3 million in 2017]".

Also of note, the Saints will take on the Vikings in Minnesota on Monday Night Football in Week 1. Long, now 31, then played sparingly for the Falcons in 2015 and was in four games for the Vikings past year.

With the Vikings' offensive line decimated by injuries last fall, the team signed Long in October.

Peterson is only two years removed from leading the league in rushing with 1,485 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. That's good for them, but the Patriots were the ones who made the much bigger, better move for a running back on Monday.

With the NFL Draft just a few days away, there have been plenty of New England Patriots rumors about what will happen with two key pieces. While he still remains unsigned, it's looking more and more likely that New Orleans is the likely destination. But, then again, signing Peterson to a one-year deal wouldn't prevent the Saints from drafting a running back to develop for the future, as well. The source told Yahoo Sports that Peterson likes the city of New Orleans and the proximity to his offseason home in Texas, allowing him to potentially finish his career close to family.

Speculation regarding free agent running back Adrian Peterson and the Green Bay Packers may soon come to an anticlimactic end. Adam Schefter of ESPN released as similar report as well.
