United CEO won't add chairman title in 2018 as was planned

Senators on the Commerce, Science and Transportation had given United until April 20 to respond to questions.

United Airlines made headlines earlier this month after aggressively dragging a passenger off their plane after they wouldn't volunteer their seat on an overbooked flight.

Ginger Evans, commissioner of the Chicago aviation department, also said the investigation of the officers was continuing, with results expected by April 26.

So now they're doing everything they can to make sure an incident like the one with Dr. David Dao never happens again. Social media users in the United States, Vietnam and China to call for a boycott of the carrier.

United executives said this week it was too early to know if the widely publicized incident has affected ticket sales.

United shares fell 4.3 percent to $67.71 on Wednesday after sliding as much as 4.5 per cent.

Even if nobody at United is getting axed over the global outrage and public-relations turf out that was United Express Flight 3411, the battered exec at the center of the vortex at least won't be moving up.

The company also revealed Friday that a new 2017 compensation program for Munoz, along with that of other executives, will be more closely tied to improved customer satisfaction. Initially, Mr. Munoz appeared to shift all responsibility to the paid passenger. He initially supported employees and blamed Dao, calling him "disruptive and belligerent".

"I apologize for having to re-accommodate these customers", said CEO Oscar Munoz in the statement on Twitter.

Dao's lawyers have taken steps that foreshadow a lawsuit against the airline and the city of Chicago, which operates O'Hare Airport. It's possible that United and Munoz will mutually decide to defer the bonus to a later date in order to avoid yet more bad press - and, for Munoz's sake, give those customer survey numbers a chance to creep back up.

United CEO Munoz's letter to the committee Thursday reiterated his apologies to Dao and all of the passengers aboard the flight who endured the "appalling" incident, which he called a "humbling learning experience".
