Ontario police arrest 100 men in child prostitution case

York police say they've arrested more than 100 men for purchasing prostituted children.

Det. Sgt. Thai Truong, of the force's human trafficking team, said no girls were harmed in the operation in which officers advertised sex services online as girls between the ages of 13 and 16.

Of the hundreds of men who had responded to the infiltrators' advertisements, most stopped contacting them when they discovered that they appeared to be in contact with underage girls.

When johns inquired about the ads, Truong said the officers indicated that they were offering children for sex.

The average age a minor is introduced to the sex trade is under 15-years-old, Truong said.

The arrests occurred seemingly within recent hours and include accused many locations including "outside Ontario" police say.

"All of the men that were arrested were arrested for essentially attempting to purchase prostituted children".

The arrested men came from all walks of life, Truong said.

The investigation, dubbed Project Raphael, lasted four years.

"I have a really cool truck with bunk beds in the back we could have lots of fun", the man wrote, before telling the girl to go to sleep because she probably had school the next day.

Of the 104 cases placed before the courts, 40 of the cases have been resolved, with 64 still before the courts.

Truong further pointed out that every efforts are being made by the members of the Human Trafficking Team for combating human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of women and underage girls.

"Almost all of these men are first time offenders ... they had stable jobs, and families and not the type of people who usually see in the criminal justice system", Susan Orlando, of the Attorney General's human trafficking prosecution team, said.
