Rock Hall 2017 class includes Pearl Jam, Tupac and Journey

Inductee Eddie Vedder from the band Pearl Jam performs at the 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the Barclays Center on Friday, April 7, 2017, in NY. "I thought it would never happen", Journey guitarist Neal Schon said in his acceptance speech.

In March, Snoop Dogg received a surprising call that he was selected to induct his late friend and "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted" collaborator into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The sold-out Barclay center roared with applause when Pearl Jam finally picked up their instruments to perform.

Fellow rapper Snoop Dogg recalled how in the early 1990s he and Shakur were "two black boys struggling to become men".

Before things got lit, Uncle Snoop inducted his former label mate and friend in the Hall with a moving speech.

Friday night, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame also inducted ELO, Joan Baez, Journey, Tupac Shakur and Yes. According to CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND (by way of TMZ), PERRY will indeed sing on at least one of the songs the band has announced it will play - "Lights", "Separate Ways" and "Don't Stop Believin", which seems the logical choice.

Pearl Jam, the Electric Light Orchestra, Journey, Yes, and the late Tupac Shakur were also among the inductees.

"The ceremony is the first time we're going to get to see Steve Perry in a long time, so that'll be fun", keyboardist Jonathan Cain told Dayton Daily News last week.

Folk great Joan Baez joked about how much of the audience might not know her, talked social activism and harmonized with the Indigo Girls and Mary Chapin Carpenter.

Artists are eligible 25 years after their first release, and voted on by fans and experts.

Prog rock legends Yes performed their hit "Roundabout" with Geddy Lee from Rush filling in on bass, while ELO ripped through some of their best-known songs, including "Mr Blue Sky" and Chuck Berry's "Roll Over Beethoven". Inductees will eventually be enshrined in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame museum in Cleveland.
