US special operations soldier killed in Afghanistan

Reuters reported that the soldier was a member of the Special Forces.

"More information will be released as appropriate", Salvin was quoted as saying by the official Twitter account of NATO's Resolute Support mission.

According to Captain Salvin, the soldier was mortally wounded during an operation in Nangarhar province, which is in eastern Afghanistan, and contains the city of Jalalabad.

American troops have been assisting Afghan forces battling the regional branch of ISIS, known as Islamic State-Khorasan Province, since early past year when the USA designated the group a foreign terrorist organization.

This comes as at least three United States soldiers were wounded in an explosion in Jalalabad city, the provincial capital of eastern Nangarhar province last month.

A US special-forces soldier was killed during a combat operation targeting Islamic State in eastern Afghanistan, the USA military said Sunday.

The U.S. Department of Defense said it would withhold the identity of the solider until the notification of next of kin.

American troops have been assisting Afghan forces battling the regional branch of the group known as Islamic State-Khorasan Province since early past year, when the USA designated the group a foreign terrorist organization.

Despite their losses, ISIS loyalists have claimed responsibility for high-profile attacks throughout the country, including the storming of Afghanistan's largest military hospital in Kabul, which killed dozens last month.

Last month three American troops have sustained injuries when an Afghan soldier opened fire on them in the southern province of Helmand, the first known "insider attack" on worldwide forces this year.
