US Rep. Maxine Waters: Bill O'Reilly 'needs to go to jail'

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump defended O'Reilly, telling the New York Times, "I don't think Bill did anything wrong".

"They have treated women very badly", Waters said, referring to Fox News.

With his one-time protector Ailes long gone, Trump sycophants Hannity and Tucker Carlson nipping at his heels in the ratings, and his "milkshake" pal Trump toxic within several important demographics, there is no doubt that the ice O'Reilly now stands on has never been weaker. His show drew 3.76 million viewers on Monday and 3.65 million on Tuesday, the Nielsen company said.

As of this writing, dozens of major companies have pulled advertising from the show in some form.

Ending O'Reilly's show without evidence his appeal is dwindling carries a risk: It could ignite a backlash among fans.

"We place ads across a wide spectrum of venues intending to reach as many viewers/listeners/ readers as possible without taking a position on the viewpoints of the venues themselves", Reed said Wednesday.

Carlson sued Fox News boss Roger Ailes for sexual harassment a year ago, ultimately forcing his ouster from the network. O'Reilly and Fox both issued statements. "Don't forget he talked about grabbing women in their private parts and because he was important, he could get away with it, and so they are two of a kind and so I'm not surprised that he stood up and tried to defend Bill O'Reilly", the California congresswoman said to Hayes.

"Personally, I think he shouldn't have settled, because you should have taken it all the way", he told the Times. O'Reilly hasn't admitted any wrongdoing. Angie's List spokeswoman Cheryl Reed said the company has a contract with Fox that doesn't specify which Fox program its ads will air on, but the company, which offers crowd-sourced reviews of local businesses, has no plans to change its ad buy.

"This is about money", Robinson said.

In March, O'Reilly appeared on "Fox & Friends" and joked about the Congressperson's appearance saying she was wearing a "James Brown wig" that distracted him from listening to her speak.

A danger for O'Reilly is if he becomes symbolic of a toxic workplace culture intolerant of women and out of step with the times. The lawsuit, filed by Julie Roginsky, charged that current Fox management did nothing to investigate her claim. O'Reilly later apologized for what he called "dumb" comments.

Fox News didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
