Park Says Giraffe Showing More Signs Of Impending Calf Delivery

Animal Adventure Park posted on its Facebook page that everyone's favorite giraffe is in the same condition as in Tuesday's night's update: April continues with her great demeanor.

On Monday, they are one of the hottest pages on Facebook, growing almost 3,000 percent. Though she is not in active labor yet, a discharge is a sign that her body is getting ready for labor.

The park also announced those who have signed up for the text message alert system will know the gender of the calf first. This evening, she was still witnessing significant calf movement on April's YouTube live stream. Patch also said he might keep his predictions to himself going forward.

The keeper's Thursday morning report indicated significant change to April's shape, according to the post; she's "much less beach-balled" and her "bulges" have "streamlined", meaning, perhaps, the calf's position has shifted in preparation for the "launch sequence" that the world has been waiting for. On Friday, they were startled by a momentary webcam breakdown, and at least 2,000 April fans sent emails to the park alerting staff to the disconnect.

Giraffes are pregnant for 15 months. She has been pregnant through nearly the entire election cycle.

The park posted the following update Monday morning, noting "pushing contractions" that were observed by numerous thousands of people tuning in, waiting for the birth.

The zoo began live-streaming the giraffe on February 23 and the giraffe has gained worldwide attention as several thousand people watch daily, hoping to see the birth. "She was very "with it" but then became very distracted and as Corey put it, 'would have walked right through me'".

Temperatures at the Adventure Park warmed enough to let the giraffes go outside. As I write this, 216,289 people are tuned into the live cam. The calf, which will be the first born at Animal Adventure Park, will be about 150 pounds and 6 feet tall at birth and up and walking in about an hour.

The giraffe mother nudged the calf to move and take its first wobbly steps.

The little giraffe won't be all that little. The park blamed the removal on animal rights activists who oppose zoos.
