Texas, Louisiana brace for possible flooding and tornadoes

That watch, in effect until midnight, encompasses 37 counties, according to the National Weather Service in North Little Rock.

Severe weather is back in the forecast for late Wednesday night and through the day on Thursday. Some of the thunderstorms could produce localized flooding. Ginny Higgins told The Associated Press that a suspected tornado touched down soon after a warning was issued. There was also a funnel cloud hovering over Faulkner County northwest of Wooster that never touched down, he said.

Another tornado warning has been posted for southern Suffolk and southern Chesapeake. A tornado watch has been issued for much of Southeast Louisiana and MS through 2 a.m., including the North Shore of Lake Pontchartrain. The storms will be in the Pee Dee from 2 through 7 a.m.

Saturday, there will be a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, the weather service said. Thunderstorms are possible in some areas until 5 a.m. Friday. The storm is moving northeast at 35 miles per hour.

The storm system making its way across Louisiana has resulted in two deaths and two tornadoes. The area includes all of Hampton Roads. This is where we will find our main threat of widespread strong storms as they sweep across the area. The line continues to travel east and activity is under severe weather limits. Go over your severe weather procedures with your family and make sure you stay on top of the weather. The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma places a moderate risk, second only to high, over a large area including southwest Louisiana. Rain totals between 1-3 inches will be common with some areas seeing more than 6 inches.

There is the potential for damaging wind gusts, large hail and isolated tornadoes.

Showers will be spotty by the morning commute Friday, but additional showers mixed with some thunder will develop during the day.

The threat for severe weather statewide is forecast to diminish by 4 a.m. Thursday.

The northern and central parts of the state are under a high-risk alert, which the governor says is an extremely rare classification.

Everyone who is facing severe weather should have a plan, he said.

"It can not be ruled out", Clarke noted, adding that there has been uncertainty regarding timing and conditions. Before storms arrive, temperatures should reach near 70 degrees in the Upstate.
