TBI confirms Cummins, Thomas spotted in Oklahoma City 2 weeks ago

More than 1,100 tips have been received in the United States, but none have panned out, investigators say.

A 50-year-old Tennessee man, who authorities said kidnapped a 15-year-old girl this month, was spotted shopping at an Oklahoma City Walmart on March 15.

The TBI says Cummins used cash to purchase various food items, but didn't buy anything else of significance.

In discouraging anyone who might blame Elizabeth for her plight, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director Mark Gwyn, too, discounted the notion that there was a mutual romance.

Elizabeth was last seen March 13 when a friend dropped her off at a restaurant in Columbia, about 40 miles southwest of Nashville.

The Walmart surveillance images showed Cummins "with an altered appearance to darken his hair", the TBI said. Cummins was charged only with sexual contact with a minor by an authority figure, a misdemeanor. Thomas' family has accused Cummins of "grooming" her. However, TBI agents confirmed that alleged sighting was not accurate.

An AMBER Alert remains in effect in both Tennessee and Alabama for Thomas.

Ongoing investigative efforts revealed that Cummins researched his silver Nissan Rogue with Tennessee tag 976-ZPT to determine which features of the vehicle could be tracked by law enforcement.

News Channel 11's sister station WKRN spoke with Elizabeth Smart's father Wednesday night about the similarities between his daughter's case and Elizabeth Thomas's case.

Anyone who spots the auto is being asked to try and safely snap a picture and call 911 immediately.

Thomas is described as a 15-year-old white female with hazel eyes, 5 feet tall, around 120 pounds. Tad Cummins, her suspected kidnapper, was a teacher at Elizabeth's school. She was last seen wearing a flannel shirt and black leggings.

Cummins is 6 feet tall and weighs 200 pounds.
