Nintendo is thinking about doubling Switch production over the next 12 months

Nintendo, which had expected to produce 8 million Switch units this year, will boost that figure to 16 million units with hopes to sell more than 10 million units during the period. It features every successful (and not so successful) Nintendo release running from the first in 1977 right up to the 2017 Switch. But the fact that GameStop issued a press release about a restock - normally a mundane event - certainly says something.

It's still pretty early to gauge demand for an entire year, obviously, and week two sales reportedly slowed dramatically in Japan after Nintendo shipped 329,152 Switches in the first seven days.

Nintendo plans to double the planned production run of its Switch console during the coming year, the Wall Street Journal reported. The change of plan shows the level of confidence the company has in its new machine.

KitGuru Says: I was lucky and managed to grab one of the last Nintendo Switch consoles from NIntendo's United Kingdom store on launch weekend. This is awesome, especially when compared to the Wii U which, for example, had 13.5 million sales during its entire lifespan which was about 4 years.

He continued: "Nintendo's success depends on its ability to appeal to gamers in the same way the Wii did by displaying innovative and fun ways to play the games and franchises they love on a new console". It is even more impressive considering that SuperData's numbers largely only account for the first week - it has been nearly two since release - and that they only account for sell-through. If you want to guarantee that you get a Switch by next month and don't care how much you pay for it, you can keep an eye on the GameStop website and preorder one as soon as it goes back on sale. But it's nearly pointless to speculate on what they might be, or even when they could be revealed.

The console had "The legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild", "Shovel Knight", and "Snipperclips" ready on the launch day. People will buy the console in order to play those games.
