NC State reaches agreement with UNC Wilmington's Kevin Keatts

Keatts earned two CAA coach of the year awards for his efforts, becoming the first coach in league history to win the award in consecutive years (2015-2016).

In three seasons at Wilmington, Keatts led the Seahawks to a 72-27 record and two Colonial Athletic Association Tournament championships.

Fresh off his team's opening-round loss in the NCAA Tournament, UNCW coach Kevin Keatts is set to visit with NC State about the open head coaching position, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.

Keatts will replace Mark Gottfried, who coached for six seasons. He made the NCAA tournament the last two seasons. He's 54-14 the past two seasons. This year's team ranked 226th in the country in adjusted defensive efficiency, which is a remarkably awful spot for a team from the ACC.

Kevin Keatts's tenure as the head basketball coach at UNC Wilmington has come to a close.

Gottfried has a reputation as a capable recruiter, and he brought some good players to NC State.

The 44-year-old from Lynchburg, Va., who played at Ferrum (1991-1995) got his college head coaching break at North Carolina Wilmington in 2014.

Keatts inherits a Wolfpack roster that loses freshman point guard Dennis Smith, senior center BeeJay Anya and possibly fifth-year senior shooting guard Terry Henderson.

UNCW signed Keatts to a contract extension that would keep him with the Seahawks through the 2021 season.
