Rex Tillerson used an alias e-mail at Exxon Mobil

NY says Secretary of State Rex Tillerson used an email alias to discuss climate change while he was Exxon Mobil Corp.'s chief executive: Wayne Tracker. This time, the spotlight is squarely on newly appointed Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, former Exxon Mobil executive, who allegedly used a pseudonym - "Wayne Tracker" - while with the oil company to email about climate change.

Officials told the judge that Exxon had not included emails from the "Wayne Tracker" account in its reply to the subpoena and that company officials hadn't even acknowledged that the account existed. The existence of the secondary email account was discovered by Schneiderman's team while reviewing other Exxon documents.

"Exxon's top executives, and in particular, Mr. Tillerson, have made multiple representations that are at the center of [the Office of the Attorney General's] investigation of potentially false or misleading statements to investors and the public", the letter said. On Monday, it said: "ExxonMobil believes the risk of climate change is clear and warrants action".

The attorney general, Eric Schneiderman, made the accusation in a letter to a NY court Monday. While Exxon had previously provided 2.5 million pages of information regarding the case, nothing of Tillerson's alias was ever mentioned.

Exxon spokesman Alan Jeffers claimed the "Wayne Tracker" address was used by Tillerson for convenience sake.

He added: "The very fact the attorney general's office has these emails is because they were produced in response to the subpoena".

As the letter states, information exchanged under the Wayne Tracker alias might prove relevant to the investigation.

Although Trump has vowed to reverse climate-change steps taken by former President Barack Obama, Exxon has said it believes it must address climate change.

News of Tillerson's email account comes as the Trump administration weighs the future of the Paris climate deal, a major global diplomatic effort to cut carbon emissions. It saved Tillerson from having to sift through large volumes of emails, he said, when writing about important business matters - including climate change - to select senior Exxon officials.

Exxon (XOM) did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Shortly afterwards, based on the same legal theory, the OAG launched its investigation into Exxon.
