Iran Receives First Purchased Airbus A330

The A330 Family, which includes Airbus' highly-efficient A330-200, offers the most spacious cabin of any wide body aircraft in its category, allowing for a range of cabin interior possibilities.

Airbus SE said Friday it had delivered the first long-range airliner to Iran since the easing of sanctions on the country, marking another milestone for controversial agreements the European plane maker and rival Boeing Co. struck past year to replenish Iran's aging fleet of planes.

The Airbus A330 is a medium- to long-range wide-body twin-engine jet airliner made by Airbus, a division of Airbus Group.

Airbus forecasts that Iran will require some 400-to-500 new aircraft to modernize and expand its existing passenger fleet to catch up with years of pent-up demand on domestic and worldwide routes.

The A330 was handed over in Toulouse, France on Friday and joins a smaller A321 delivered to Iran earlier this year.

The long-haul aircraft, carrying IranAir Chairman Farhad Parvaresh and other officials, landed at Tehran's Mehrabad Airport, the official news agency IRNA reported. In fact, Republican politicians in the U.S. Congress have pledged to block a separate deal between Boeing and Iran Air calling for delivery of fifty 737 Max 8s, fifteen 777-300ERs and fifteen 777-9s valued at $16.6 billion at list prices.

IranAir is also in talks to finalise a deal to buy 20 aircraft from European turboprop maker ATR.

Under the sanctions, Iran's aviation industry has become aged and remains underdeveloped.
