Elon Musk offers to fix Australian power network in 100 days

The offer follows a series of blackouts in the state.

It all started on Thursday when Atlassian CEO and Australian billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes tweeted an article to Musk that cited a similar offer from Lyndon Rive, who heads Tesla's battery division. Incredibly, Musk didn't just cement the offer, he wagered that Tesla could do it in less than 100 days or else the whole installation would be given free of charge.

The Twitter conversation between Musk and Mike Cannon-Brookes, one of the founders of Australia's Atlassian Corp, will nearly definitely be added to the archives of Musk's biggest undertakings. "If I can make the $ happen (& politics), can you guarantee the 100MW in 100 days", he wrote.

South Australian senator Sarah Hanson-Young responded to the Twitter thread with "Let's talk!"

Meanwhile, South Australia Premier Jay Weatherill brushed off theories that the power crisis is a by-product of the country's over-reliance on renewable energies. SolarCity makes solar solutions for areas which can store up energy during the day and feed that back into an area's grid.

"South Australia has over 1700 MW of wind installed and 700 MW of solar", South Australia's Energy Minister Tom Koutsantonis told ABC News.

Apparently, Elon Musk is 100 percent behind Rive on this, which is what Cannon-Brookes challenged in the tweet above.

In a conversation on the social media platform with another business mogul, Elon said that if these batteries are are not up and running within one hundred days, he will then pay for the entire process.

Meanwhile, south Australia has been hit particularly hard, with its 1.7 million people facing frequent energy cutbacks and power shortages.

Tesla Powerwall and Powerpack products, however, might be just what South Australia needs.

Would you bet against Elon Musk? "Already reached out looking forward to our discussion", Mr Weatherill said on Twitter.

Tesla was unable to produce the 80,000-90,000 vehicle deliveries for the year - the company justified the slowdown in production by suggesting it has had to focus on the production of the Model X, a sport utility vehicle.
