Women's Day marchers target Trump on abortion and

While many school districts are not planning for any disruptions on Wednesday, a few districts nationwide have chose to shutdown for the day during the "A Day Without A Woman" protests.

Event organizers said "A Day Without a Woman" was inspired by New York City's bodega strike in which immigrant store owners closed down stores and "A Day Without Immigrants" in which many immigrants nationwide stayed home from work and school, and did not spend money February 15.

Public schools in parts of Virginia and the neighboring state of Maryland will be shut because of hundreds of staffers asked for the day off, news reports said.

Lloyd said that to try and minimize the impact the school closures will have on parents, six school cafeterias will open for breakfast and lunch.

Alexandria City Public Schools' decision to close school Wednesday after more than 300 staff members called off work has left some parents scrambling to find child care.

The day also evolved into the Day Without A Woman protest in some cities across the globe.

Meanwhile, rallies and protests will take place from coast-to-coast, with especially large demonstrations planned in Washington, D.C.

The organizers of the Women's March on Washington are calling for a general strike in which women take a day off for "A Day Without A Woman" boycott.

The silent protest, or movement, is organized by the Women's March as it is asking women to wear red, not go to work and avoid spending money on Wednesday.

But not all women agreed with the Day Without a Woman strike. Roughly three-quarters of US teachers are women, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.

Women across the US might join nation-wide strike on Wednesday and not go to work. The day will be a teacher work day, Superintendent of Schools Alvin L. Crawley said in the announcement. "We are really here safeguarding the rights of women and girls and their families and we need to be here to do that".

On Wednesday, driven by a high volume of requests for time off, several schools were also forced to shutter their doors out of necessity.

"While Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools values and supports its female employees, the decision to close schools is not a political statement".

Crawley said the decision to cancel classes Wednesday was "based exclusively on our ability to provide sufficient staff to cover all our classrooms", and does not signal political support for the protest.
