Dirk Nowitzki Finally Joins The 30000 Career Points Club

Dirk Nowitzki ducked his head into a mob of teammates, with Dallas owner Mark Cuban clutching the side of his jersey before the Mavericks superstar found coach Rick Carlisle for a hug.

In fact, Nowitzki's 30,000th point was incredibly similar to his 20,000th point, as he buried the fateful shot over the Los Angeles Lakers' No. 7; first Lamar Odom, then Larry Nance Jr.

It didn't take long for the National Basketball Association to acknowledge Nowitzki's milestone, which he achieved with a familiar face-up jumper during a home game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver released a statement regarding Nowtizki's achievement.

But because the 37-year-old Dallas Mavericks big man entered the night averaging 13.6 points per game, fans and pundits alike weren't holding their breath.

"It's been sort of surreal-30,000 is awesome, a lot of points", Dirk said after notching 25 points and 11 rebounds in a 122-111 win. He scored 26 points per game in the NBA Finals as the Mavs upset Lebron James and the Miami Heat in six games.

"Twenty is a great number", he said last week in an interview.

The Thunder dropped its third consecutive game with a 104-89 loss to the Mavericks on Sunday night. "This latest accomplishment further establishes his legacy as one of the NBA's greatest players". So I kind of want to make the 20 fold.

While the crowd at Dallas's American Airlines Center roared, play continued, and it wasn't until shortly thereafter that a whistle allowed Nowitzki and his team to bask in the moment. I think that's also a good number to be in the league ... from 20 to 40.
