Buffalo Bills Bring Back Tyrod Taylor on Restructured Deal

One potential 2017 quarterback possibility for the Jets never hit the market as the Bills on Wednesday agreed on a restructured contract with Tyrod Taylor. But since the arrival of new head coach Sean McDermott, the sentiment has started to shift toward keeping Taylor in the fold.

With the Bills, Taylor flourished in the run game, totaling 1,148 yards and 10 touchdowns on 199 carries. "[General Manager Doug Whaley] and I are confident this was best move for the Bills at this time".

Taylor threw for 3,023 yards, 17 touchdowns and six interceptions last season, rushing for 580 yards and six TDs and taking a league-high 42 sacks in 15 starts before sitting out Week 17.

Taylor, who had surgery in January to fix a sports hernia but has since been cleared for practice is 15-14 in 2 seasons as the Bills starting QB.

The team was trying to prevent Taylor from getting hurt, because the terms of his contract would have required the Bills to pay out $27.5 million if he were too sustain a catastrophic injury.

Especially with the firing of Rex Ryan at the end of last season and Taylor being benched, it was unclear of how the team would handle the Taylor situation.

Taylor was not the Browns' first choice, but he would've been a possibility had he been available. If Taylor spends next season digging himself in as a middle-of-the-road starter, the Bills can start working on plans to replace him, either with Jones or a QB now outside the system.

The team must now choose among a rather unpalatable set of options: Draft an uncertain rookie quarterback high, rely on Griffin and Kessler for another year, or pursue one of the crop of dubious free agents which include Brian Hoyer, Mike Glennon, and others of that ilk.
