Nadal has no answer to Querrey power in Acapulco final

"I played great today, but I need to play even better tomorrow to beat Nadal".

The American completed an impressive tournament with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) win over 14-time grand slam champion Nadal on Saturday.

In the semifinals, the 29-year-old was up against fellow big-server and sixth seed Nick Kyrgios. Nadal was once again victorious, requiring four sets to get the job done, 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (2), 6-3.

Nadal responded in the second set with the support of the majority of the Acapulco crowd, but somehow failed to take any of the six break point opportunities he created for himself, five of which came in the crucial eighth game, as he ultimately lost out via a tiebreak 7-6.

Nadal reached the final without dropping a set, however, Querrey was powerful in the serve and hit 19 aces, proving too much for Nadal.

They met for the third time in the semifinals of the Davis Cup between Spain and U.S. on clay courts in 2008, it was another close encounter with the former world number one defeating Querrey, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. Sam Querrey is new champion of the Acapulco Open. A victory would give the Spaniard his first hard court title since Qatar in 2014. It's a whole process, I need to have confidence so that things go in the right direction - he assured - because the year has been going very well and I am at a high place in the Race (he is second behind Federer).

The 29-year-old appeared to be irritated, at times, with Kyrgios' antics in the duo's first-ever meeting, and when the question was put to him, the Serb cut it short. He had dropped his previous seven matches against the Top 20 prior to Acapulco. "I hope to be prepared for it".

The final will take place at roughly 3am United Kingdom time on Sunday morning.
