Khabib Nurmagomedov pulled from UFC 209 co-main event

After hours of speculation, UFC officials would later confirm "The Eagle" had indeed been hospitalized and would be forced out of the bout after not being medically cleared by doctors.

There has been no love lost between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov in the build up to UFC 209.

The UFC 209 bout against American Ferguson was due to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, March 4th.

It's arguably the most intriguing fight the UFC can possibly put on, but for some reason, the universe seems hell bent on stopping it from ever happening.

Nurmagomedov (24-0) and Ferguson (23-3) have been matched in two previous bouts that also were canceled due to medical problems for both fighters.

There was an anxious wait during the early weigh-ins as the gathered media stayed until the final minute to see if Nurmagomedov would make the cut. This is a huge blow to Saturday night's fight card, especially with UFC president Dana White saying recently that the victor could fight Conor McGregor next. I do not understand this fight [McGregor vs. Alvarez], he catch him a few times and he falls down-to me this is a fake fight.

McGregor won't necessarily face the lightweight interim champion in his next fight. "I mean it, get better".

McGregor has been continually linked with a potential mega-fight with Floyd Mayweather but no deal has been finalised.

Is it unclear if another opponent will be sought for Ferguson at short notice or a lesser fight bumped up the UFC 209 card to fill the gap. It will be headlined by a welterweight title rematch, as champion Tyron Woodley defends his belt against Stephen Thompson, following their 2016 draw.
