National Hockey League trade deadline: Kings acquire Jarome Iginla from Avalanche

The 39-year-old has a full no-trade clause, but McKenzie reports Iginla may also be interested in the Kings.

The Colorado Avalanche granted the future Hall of Famer's wishes on Wednesday, trading Iginla to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a conditional fourth round pick in the 2018 National Hockey League entry draft.

That fourth-round pick is contingent on the Kings making the playoffs and Iginla re-signing with the Kings when his current contract expires at the end of the season.

The Kings' also added veteran rental goaltender Ben Bishop over the weekend.

The 39-year-old winger owns just eight goals this season in 61 games with the Colorado Avalanche after scoring 22 or more in each his previous three seasons. Earlier on Wednesday, he sent forward Dwight King to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for a conditional fourth round pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. He can become an unrestricted free agent after this season.

Iginla, a former Flames captain, helped the Flames to the Stanley Cup Finals during the 2004 playoffs before falling to the Tampa Bay Lightning in seven games.

No doubt Iginla will provide something, Sutter may choose to use his sniping skills for the Kings power play which is now in the bottom ten at 24th.

The last time Iginla played for Darryl Sutter - the current head coach of the Kings, they were both with the Calgary Flames.

The Kings now sit one point behind the St. Louis Blues for the final wildcard spot in the Western Conference.
