Nerve agent used to kill Kim Jong Nam

VX nerve agent is identified as the chemical substance used to kill Kim in a preliminary report from the Chemistry Department of Malaysia.

The investigation has unleashed a serious diplomatic fight between Malaysia and North Korea, a prime suspect in the February 13 killing of Kim Jong Nam at Kuala Lumpur's airport. For example, Saddam Hussein is believed to have used VX nerve agent on Kurdish citizens of Iraq in the 1980s.

The body believed to be that of Kim Jong Nam has yet to be identified by next of kin, so Malaysia is refusing to release the remains.

Four of them flew out of Kuala Lumpur airport shortly after the attack on Mr Kim, returning to Pyongyang via a complicated route that avoided China. Since the incident, tens of thousands of people have passed through the terminal, with the location of the assault remaining accessible.

The agent is deadly if inhaled and can also entry a person's body through the skin.

Abdul Rahim said with the availability of local expertise, there was no need for Malaysia to engage foreign expertise to study the use of the toxic material in the case.

Abdul Samah said medical tests still need to be performed on the two women to "get the answers". According to Bloomberg, spies in South Korea "have a spotty record when reporting about high-level events in authoritarian, cloistered North Korea".

Kim was not an obvious political threat to his estranged half brother, Kim Jong Un.

"At maximum capacity, North Korea is estimated to be capable of producing up to 12,000 tons of [chemical weapons]".

Malaysia plans to issue an arrest warrant for a North Korean diplomat wanted for questioning over the murder of Kim Jong Nam if he does not co-operate voluntarily.

The man has diplomatic immunity.

On Saturday, Malaysia's tone changed. Malaysian police said steps were being taken to decontaminate the airport.

Indonesian police chief Tito Karnavian said that the suspect, Siti Aishah, told police she had sprayed others in a similar manner three or four times, although only the Kim incident allegedly involved a unsafe substance.

He said the nerve agent was hard for immigration or customs officers to detect in small amounts.

The Indonesian woman also claims not to know Huong, who separately met with representatives from the Vietnamese embassy.

"She said she was given a kind of oil, like baby oil", Indonesian deputy ambassador Andreano Erwin told reporters after meeting Aishah.

According to Erwin, Siti said the men who asked her to carry out the act had names like "James" and "Chang".

The senior diplomat added it was too early to say what charges may be brought against her.

Tasteless and odorless, VX has an amber-like color and is the consistency of motor oil.

These then give way to convulsions, seizures, loss of consciousness and paralysis, and eventually death.

In grainy surveillance footage, the women appear to smear something onto Kim's face before walking away in separate directions.

Malaysian police have said the two women had rehearsed the attack before carrying it out and had been instructed to wash their hands afterwards.
