'Certainly a chance' of moving embassy to Jerusalem

Israel took the eastern part of Jerusalem from Jordan in the 1967 Middle East War and considers all of the city as its capital, while the Palestinians want the eastern portion as the capital of their hoped-for state. He relayed his organization's belief that God gave Jerusalem to Abraham's descendants in an "eternal covenant and that no president, prime minister or monarch has any authority to take it away".

Last week, as reported by The Algmeiner, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer was non-committal about a timeline for the decision-making process on the embassy matter.

Trump and Netanyahu are due to meet in Washington early next month.

"Our position has always been, and will always be, that the US embassy needs to be here, in Jerusalem", Netanyahu said at his weekly cabinet meeting.

"Jerusalem is Israel's capital and it is right and proper that all of the foreign embassies, and not only the American embassy, move here. I believe that over time a lot of them will come here to Jerusalem".

President Trump has said that he will move the country's Israeli embassy to Jerusalem.

Palestinian officials said the embassy's relocation would kill off any prospects for peace.

Israel's parliament is set to vote on a controversial bill that seeks to retroactively legalise 4,000 settler homes built on privately-owned Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank, a measure the attorney-general has said is unconstitutional.

The global community says Jerusalem's final status should be determined via direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians - talks that collapsed in 2014.

Jordan, the Palestinian Authority and other Arab states have warned the White House of severe repercussions should it proceed with the move, including a review of bilateral relations with both the USA and Israel. Referring to the recently built fence along Israel's border with Egypt, the prime minister said the measure had been a "great success" in keeping out migrants, mainly from African countries.

"I believe it will change", the Israeli leader stated, adding that he had spoken to the newly elected President Trump a few days before. It stopped all illegal immigration.
