Trump Just Called For A Review Of US Military Preparedness

Eradicating the Islamic State terror group, also known as ISIS, played a significant role in Donald Trump's presidential campaign a year ago.

"I'm establishing new vetting measures to keep radical Islamic terrorists out of the United States of America", Trump said.

Trump also demanded additional means of cutting off financial support to IS, and a "detailed" strategy on how the United States will fund this initiative, the document showed.

"The positive call was a significant start to improving the relationship between the United States and Russian Federation that is in need of fix", according to the White House.

The president signed an executive order requiring the joint chiefs of staff within the next 30 days to give him a plan for defeating the militant group.

Under the document, the U.S. leader tells his administration to immediately start drafting a new plan of efforts to defeat the Islamic State (outlawed in Russia). "They will have 30 days to submit to the Oval Office a plan for soundly and quickly defeating ISIS".

This plan should contain "identification of new coalition partners in the fight against ISIS and policies to empower coalition partners to fight ISIS and its affiliates", the document reads.

USA forces have carried out more than 200 airstrikes in Iraq and Syria since Trump's inauguration, roughly the same pace as during the waning days of the Obama administration.

Retired Marine Corps general James Mattis. The hourlong discussion centered on Islamic State, but also involved the range of worldwide challenges the US military faces in the years ahead.

He also signed a order to impose a five-year lobbying ban for administration officials, and one that reorganised the National Security Council's structure.

Currently, the US has a little more than 5,100 troops in Iraq and 500 in Syria, according to Military Times.

Trump has signed a raft of other executive orders in the past few days, including a controversial ban on refugees entering the U.S. and a temporary ban on allowing individuals from seven mostly Middle Eastern nations, even some legal residents, to enter the US.
