Kompany revels in City return

Asked whether Kompany was fit enough to play two games in four days, City boss Pep Guardiola said: "I don't know".

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany says he is the "happiest player on earth" after he returned to action in his side's 3-0 FA Cup victory over Crystal Palace.

City progressed to the fifth round with a convincing performance, but Kompany's first appearance since suffering his most recent injury - also against Palace at Selhurst Park - felt equally significant.

And Kompany told the City website: "I'm by far the happiest footballer on earth". "I've been working hard for this, waiting, waiting, waiting to get back into the team".

"[Jordon] Mutch was booked for much less - the referee hasn't done his job for me on the incident with Yaya Toure". Everything was there for me to perform well: a good hail storm, a few good challenges.

He said: "I haven't been able to start it that much yet because we've had so many games, like at Christmas".

'I won't stop and I know I will keep fighting even for one game, so I can experience these moments.

"We can not forget it is not easy for a player from another country to come here at 20 years old and play at a big club where always he has no other option than to win, win, win".

"I think it is close, but not absolutely certain it is finalised", he said.

The 30-year centre back won nearly every battle with Christian Benteke and Loic Remy, helping mark just a fourth clean sheet away at a fellow Premier League side for Pep Guardiola this season.

"We had everything to win the game, but it's the same old story: we had trouble creating chances and the other team, with less options, get the goals".

"We are going to play Willy Caballero". It's something that we worked on and we did that; it's frustrating we didn't convert them.
