Gears of War 4's Social Quickplay playlist gets cross-play

Thus, the players who use Windows 10 and those who use Xbox One will be able to play the same online games within social mode. It was previously confirmed, at E3 past year, that Halo Wars 2 would not have cross-play support at launch, but that it may arrive as a post-launch update.

Other multiplayer modes, like the Core and Competitive modes found under Matchmaking, which are ranked, will remain platform independent, Microsoft says.

The company has chose to make official this new online gaming system after having studied the data that came out of the Cross-play Weekend, an event that occurred at the end of previous year in which a total of 115,000 unique players participated and that for the company has been an empirical evidence that cross-over online play works.

As such, beginning today, Social Quickplay will now be a Cross-play playlist! Now, the video game developer The Coalition announced that the cross-play between the different platforms is now available in the video game's multiplayer mode. This step is planned to be a permanent move for the future of Social Quickplay, with the first few months being a "trial period" in order to monitor player feedback alongside data to ensure the Test Weekend was representative.

Modern gamers have always been divided based on the platform of their choice, be it Xbox One, PC or PS4. To underscore this, The Coalition cited that 90 percent of the matches involved a mix of Xbox One and Windows 10 players. "HW2 doesn't for some longer standing engine reasons but going forward cross-play is a good feature". The data compared were the per match Average KD, Score and Kills.

The catch is, cross-play will still not be available for Core and Competitive playlists.
