The 2018 Royal Rumble Weekend is Set For Philly

There have been two exceptions in the 30-year history of the event - two instances in which the WWE championship was on the line in the Royal Rumble match, raising the stakes even higher.

Plus, it will be Nia Jax taking on Sasha Banks on the pre-show. Before the Wrestlemania matches, this would be the first real epic encounter between the men since their 1997 Hell in a Cell match and it was glorious. And hey, as long as the 2018 show isn't as uniformly very bad as the 2015 show, I think it'll all work out in the end.

All indications are that Reigns is beating Owens. He headbanged the door just to get himself psyched and ready. While these guys are definitely options with mainstream appeal, only one of them has the ability to put on a great match; and Lesnar has shown no inclination in the past year and a half that he can be bothered to do so.

There are 30 men entering the ring, but only one will reign at the massive pay-per-view in San Antonio next Sunday, with the victor becoming the number 1 contender for WWE World Championship or WWE Univeral Championship.

Kurt Angle told TMZ Sports that he's not ruling out a return to the ring but he's not going to make a surprise return at Sunday's Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

CHYNA, BETH PHOENIX and KHARMA are the only women to appear in the Royal Rumble match - but each lady has eliminated at least one of their male counterparts. Neville made his return to WWE and attacked TJ Perkins and Rich Swann, turning to a villainous role. If John Cena wins, he will become a record-tying 16-time WWE World champion.

That's four consecutive nights of WWE wrestling in the same building.

"The most I can say right now is that if some of you are subscribers to the Network and you're looking forward to something happening or not happening on the 29th..." While the match itself is fairly good with legends like Ted DiBiase, Hercules, Curt Hennig and so on putting in memorable performances, it would be the fated showdown between Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior that elevated this to "must-watch" status. Flair has yet to defeat the Hugster cleanly, so this might be her biggest challenge yet. But that was before the WWE changed its strategy: Now, it presents multiple events surrounding its "big four" extravaganzas, all at the same venue.

Having Balor win the rumble would put him back in the Universal Championship picture against Owens or Reigns. Mick Foley decided that putting Jericho in a shark cage and hanging him above the ring would be the best way to prevent his interference (like the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Finale at NXT TakeOver: Toronto).
