LFP to investigate allegations of racist abuse directed at Mario Balotelli

The 26-year-old striker starred for French club Nice in the 1-1 draw but said on Saturday: 'Is racism legal in France? Or only in Bastia? "Those people like Bastia supporters make it disgusting!"

More and more fans join in until there is a loud chorus of supporters chanting "ooh ooh ooh" at Balotelli.

His goalscoring exploits have steered Nice to top of the table, though they're only one point above Monaco - who have a game in hand - after Friday night's 1-1 draw away to Bastia.

Last weekend, they were held 0-0 at home by struggling Metz, with Balotelli suspended for that game. We heard it during the warmup [and] during the game as well, monkey chants.

Prior to the LFP's second statement being released, Bastia had responded to Balotelli's allegations by saying it was not aware of any such abuse taking place.

The club said in a statement that they had not "at any time observed or been informed on Friday evening, either by the officials, team delegates or by any member of the Nice club of any incident of this type".

"I have a question for French people." he posted on his Instagram page.

Bastia, however, added that it remains at the LFP's disposal "so that all light is shed" on "this type of behaviour, which is by nature stupid and unacceptable". The player was subject to racial abuse by Roma fans when he was contracted to play with AC Milan in 2013.

Nice now trail league leaders Monaco by two points after 21 matches, their 1-1 draw was enough to leave them prematurely first but Monaco's 4-0 rout of FC Lorient on Sunday put them back top.
